Annual Pow Wow
The American Indian Health Research and Education Alliance (AIHREA) will be hosting the Annual O.N.E. (Our Nations Energies) Health and Wellness Pow Wow the first weekend in May. There is no admission cost and the event is open to everyone. The event is held at Johnson County Community College in the gymnasium.
This year the free health screenings will include body mass index, blood cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, lung function tests, heart disease and cancer risk assessments, hearing tests, vision tests and referrals to free medical care. Incentives will be given to people who participate in the health fair screenings.
The pow wow will feature American Indian singing, dancing, arts and crafts, and food. AIHREA is committed to addressing health disparities currently facing American Indian communities. AIHREA seeks to collaborate and partner with American Indian nations, communities, and organizations to improve the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of American Indians throughout the United States through quality participatory research and educational programs.
